The affidavit a former law intern gave to a Supreme Court panel on alleged sexual harassment by retired Supreme Court judge Justice A.K. Ganguly has been made public by Additional Solicitor General Indira Jaising.
In an article published in The Indian Express on Monday, Jaising questioned Justice Ganguly refusal to quit as chairman of West Bengal Human Rights Commission given the gravity of the allegations against him made by the victim.
"Is this how you would treat your daughter, My Lord?" Jaising asked.
The harassment took place inside a room in hotel Le Meridien in New Delhi on December 24, 2012, eight days after the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old physiotherapist in a bus.
Nearly a year later, the intern submitted a sworn affidavit narrating the incident to a three-judge Supreme Court committee. The incident was found to be prima facie established.
Here are excerpts from the victim's affidavit, as published in the newspaper.
"When I reached the suite, there were two other persons apart from the judge present there. I was told by the judge that the man was associated with the AIFF (All India Football Federation). The woman was a stenographer. The judge then informed me that the AIFF report had to be submitted the next morning, and asked me to stay at the hotel and work all night. I declined and told him that I had to finish the work quickly, and return to the PG accommodation.
